Website name: humordoctormd START DATE (EzineArticles.com): August 4, 2006 UPDATE; March, 2007 OBJECTIVE: To spread the word about my writing; resume-building/attracting an agent/publisher for my book/attracting visitors to my website/future home business, etc. LEVEL OF WRITING; Novice/aspiring writer * CELEBRATION! SOS! My Serious and Silly Articles: FINALLY...my goal and experiment on this article has been reached! YAHOO and let the drums roll! I wrote this piece on September 14, 2006, and it has been an experiment...a REPORT on my other articles, and I was hoping it would get near the top of my article charts in hits/views. On December 11, 2006...it has done just that, as the article has slowly climbed to the TOP! As of March, 2007, it now sits in third place. * BOOK: Not Tonight...I Have a Headache (Work-in-Progress): As a novice in writing, an agent or book publisher (paper) won't give me the time of the day, unless he or she sees examples of my writing, and a resume of my published articles, etc. Because I don't have a lot of credits in writing, the best way to get those credits, in my view, is to have my articles published around the Internet...the more the better! * NUMBER OF ARTICLES: 53 * LIST OF FUTURE ARTICLES: See Article: List of Future Articles on My Drawing Board * ARTICLES PUBLISHED: 46 of my 53 articles have found homes on other websites; blogs; or directories. My thanks and appreciation to everyone who have published my articles on their websites. * VIEWS/HITS OF ALL MY ARTICLES: From 8/4/06 to March, 07: (at EzineArticles.com) 12,645 views * Number of ratings/stars: 12 * EZINE PUBLISHERS: (257 views) * LEADERS IN ARTICLES PUBLISHED ON OTHER WEBSITES: My three non-smoking articles lead the way, which I'm very happy about. 1) Sabrina: Another Smoking Casualty leads the way in being published on seven other websites. Smoking Sucks: How I Quit Smoking (5 websites; Have You Ever Kissed an Ashtray? (Pucker-up!) 5 websites. * THE WORST ARTICLE START: (7 views/24 hours)
A Feast For The Eyes (Come take a look/The Hot-Air Balloon Fiesta article). I thought certain this article would take off into the skies, but it just de-flated on the launch pad! As of March, 2007 the article is showing signs of life, and is slowing rising into the skies and gaining altitude, etc. * THE BEST ARTICLE START: (207 views/24 hrs.)
Diabetes on the Rise! At the time, I was amazed at how this article took over the top spot within 24 hours. * BEST ARTICLE/OVERNIGHT VIEWS: The Seriousness of Depression (244 views/24 hrs)
Written on September 5, 2006, I was amazed with this article, as it got off to a good start, and was slowly climbing the charts etc. All of a sudden..on October 23, 2006...a huge giant step...and took the lead on my list and remained there for a month! * MOST CONSISTENT ARTICLE(S): The first article I wrote, and the Two-Headed Monster has been in at the top ten from the beginning! I am pleased about this, because this is a creative writing piece. Creative writing gets the juices flowing for me! * MOST FUN ARTICLE(S) TO WRITE: The total silly and creative pieces starting with the piece entitled, Auto Racing: Ladies...Start Your Engines. Does it get any sillier than this one? Music: The Beginning of Rock and Roll For Me (1955); and Don't Golf My Way; the Two-Headed Monster. * ARTICLE BALANCE: The top 20 articles: Dead-even! 10 are serious articles; 10 articles are humorous or humor-related. I'm really pleased about this....YAHOO! * TOP TEN ARTICLES: (March, 2007) 1) Weight Loss: How I Lost 38 Pounds; 2) Music: The Beginning of Rock and Roll for Me (1955); 3) SOS! My Serious and Silly Articles: 4) The Seriousness of Depression; 5) Diabetes On The Rise; 6) Discrimination Against Older Workers (Ageism); 7) The Two-Headed Monster; 8) Is Bald Beautiful? 9) Don't Golf My Way! 10) I'm Proud to be an American Veteran * EXPECTATIONS: I don't expect ALL my articles to do well...but, if I can just keep the "bombs" to a minimum...or to a small percentage. I'll work on them as time goes on, etc. DOA the article entitled, Get Up...Dust Yourself Off...and Try Again is showing unexpected signs of life, as it rises from the dead! * NUMBER OF DIFFERENT WEBSITES PUBLISHING MY ARTICLES: (68) As a novice in writing, I'm astonished about this number, but I'll take it...YAHOO! A list can be seen at my website at the direct link shown below in the Resources box. * THE BEST SURPRISE ARTICLE(S)
"Weight Loss: How I Lost 38 Pounds," and "Discrimination Against Older Workers (Ageism)." These two articles were at the BOTTOM of the ocean for over a month and nobody cared! Both of them were as good as I could write them, so I didn't know what was wrong. And then...within about a month, they both caught fire, and little by little they worked their way to the top. (1st and 6th place) I can't tell you how pleased I am to see this happen! What was probably the answer? PATIENCE! * BEST PERFORMING ARTICLE: After taking the lead (in views) on December 21, 2006, Weight Loss: How I Lost 38 Pounds (700+ views) is running away with the field, and is almost 200 hits/views over the 2nd place article. It is also running away with the field at Author's Den my other writing site, with 150 hit lead over 2nd place! My little "basket case that could," is doing very well right now! (knock on wood) * WEBSITES PUBLISHING THE MOST ARTICLES: Only Pun Jab.com (English newspaper/directory has published 33 of my articles; Peace Team Book.org 15 articles; ESL Teachers Board.com has published six of my articles. * MOST DRASTIC CHANGE OF AN ARTICLE: Legacy: The Gift of Writing. I wrote this piece twice as a serious article of about 1,000 words. I didn't like either version, and I scrapped it, as it was going straight to the land fill. I shortened the piece and wrote it as a humorous piece, and it has climbed into the top 15 articles and nearly broke the top ten...YAHOO! * DISAPPOINTMENTS: I thought my article, How I Got Started In Humor," and Are You Afraid of Failure would do better...but they haven't. And I don't know what to do with them except cry and whine! (sob-sob-boo-hoo!) Not Tonight...I Have a Headache is the title of my book and it is a bomb! What's interesting, is that the piece is doing better at Author's Den. * BOMBS; About six of my 53 articles are currently in a COMA, and need emergency attention! I've tried to make them better, but haven't succeeded. But, what's interesting, is that a few of these articles, are not doing well with VIEWS ...but they have found a home on a website someplace. Hey...I'll take it...after all, the name of the game is to get my articles published someplace and spread the word, right? * DELETIONS! I've deleted three articles: 1) This is America the Beautiful? This piece was a sting on American behavior and what we do to each other as a People! I think this article hurt me more than it helped me! 2) It's Time to "Throw The Bums Out (2006 election); I was pleased about the outcome of the election of 2006, as American's did themselves good, as they threw the "bums" out of Congress once again! This piece served it's purpose. 3) English Only in America...Love It...or Leave It! I said I would never get involved in politics, and although my feelings are strong in the immigration issue, I had to stay with my policy of not getting into politics or controversial issues, etc. I've only been in the writing field for a short time, but I've been in the art/creative world (woodcarver) for 30 years, and the best advice I can give anyone entering into the creative arena is to: believe in yourself; be honest with yourself; take a few chances with your work (with common sense); develop your own style; search your imagination for great ideas; try to splash a little humor and creativity in your work...and more than anything else...THINK POSITIVE!
